Part time, I work as an HTML editor, and my expertise in IT doesn't really go beyond this. I read an article here (link) recently about the responsibilities of an 'Information Architect,' and am intrigued by the vocation. Though I do have an imperative question:
Is half a dozen languages too much to attain expertise in, and which include the following:
HTML (XML and CSS), PHP, C++, C#/.NET/ Mono, Ruby (RoR), and Python?
There's some order to this selection, considering that I can use all this on an IDE. I've already begun my studies of Python, I would appreciate any suggestions or experiences.
Is half a dozencomputer programming languages too much to attain expertise in?
HTML (XML and CS?
Once you actually begin studying you'll learn that most of the "languages" you mentioned are actually just scripting of functions. C is an actual programming language. Python and whatnot are all incredibly similar, and you'll find that if you "master" one, the rest are.. umm well? They all do the same things, just word them slightly different ways.
Scripting and programming are vastly different things. Please find a tutorial on the differences. You merely list half a dozen different types of scripting just to pad your resume for the people who don't know any better.
(adding clarification) You list them because it's better then saying: "You tell me what you want done and I'll make it happen. If you like, I'll even tell you it's done in whatever format you read about in that magazine. You won't know the difference."

Installer error????? PLZZZZZZ?
i suggest u to install Zonelabs Security Suite..
get it from http://www.zonelabs.com
Reply:Install the latest service pack of windows xp
Reply:This usually happens after a virus / trojan, so i would simply install a fresh XP. (backup before what you need from C drive)

I am trying to apply to McMaster University's Bachelor of Health Sciences program?
I am trying to apply to McMaster University's Bachelor of Health Sciences program , and in order to do so, i must complete a supplementary application, which involves writing 3 essays. On the University's site, it mentions that i can not prewrite the essays in a word processing program, only a text editing program. I only realized this after prewriting all 3 essays in Word.
It says that this is the case b/c the two types of programs do not share the same fonts, yet when i copy and paste the essay from word into notepad (a text editor), the font appears in the text editor's font. On the site, it even mentions that this can not be done. Is there a way around this?

hm... I think you're fine with the essay you pasted onto Notepad. I think what the site is trying to say is that only certain fonts are not shared between the two programs.
What ever font you used in Word, Notepad probably has the same font. OR Notepad converts any font into its own font when it is pasted. I think you're okay.
Hope this helps. And good luck with the application!!

Where to save a SQL*PlUS report (oracle 9i)??
m making a project (website on ONLINE SHOPPING) in java using oracle 9i as back end.
my guide has asked me to include at least 10 reports for the project.
i found that there was a special feature in oracle 9i to generate reports...now i know the complete format of preparing this SQL*PLUS report..it can be made in any editor..i hav chosen NOTEPAD as my editor..
I dont know where to save this File so that SQL can execute it...pls tell me where should i save it...???
the c:\ drive of my PC holds oracle..
its kinda urgent...ss plz reply soon..
thanx in advance..
Where to save a SQL*PlUS report (oracle 9i)??
I don't know where oracle 9i will save the reports. But if you try to retreive a report by clicking on "open", it would take you to a default directory, where oracle expect to find reports that are saved under "sql" extension. Hope this will answer your question. Good luck
Reply:You need training little grasshopper. If you are using just SQL*Plus to generate reports, you can execute the script by full path and spool the file to a full path.
i.e.
spool c:\myoutput\shoppingcart\report1.txt
SQL%26gt;@c:\myproject\get_sale_orders.sql
spool off
You can put the execution in a CRON or Windows job that can run periodically. I'm pretty sure you're on Windows and not Linux or UNIX. So, you can create a batch job to run in the Windows Task Scheduler.
Reply:how would i know.

If you have installed Enterprise Manager ( Which is the part of client installation) then you can generate reports with out specifying the column format and break statement . You can save the report at your hard disk .
This feature is available in all monitoring tools like TOAD,HP openview,BMC etc.
In 10g you can run awrrpt %26amp; addmrpt which are located at
$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin directory and it will generate html %26amp; text reports

What are my chances of getting into a nice, private college?
I have a 3.0514 GPA based on a 4.0 scale. I'm in the top third of my class of 132 students and also a Junior in High School. I'm guaranteed to get good teacher recommendations if I ever needed them. My GPA is lower because of three classes that I had some teacher-student conflicts. But other then those three [which were 70, 68 and a 78] all of my grades were as follows...
[68], [70], [78], 81, 82, 83, 85, 86, 87, 88, 90, 90, 90, 90, 94, 95, 96, and 97. All of which are academic classes. I'm not apart of any organizations outside of school. In school, however, I'm an editor of my High School's Newspaper, The Eagle, and an editor of our Yearbook. I'm an honor student and really good at French [currently I have a 102% in my French II class]. I'm very Polish [about 65%] and French, and I'm pursuing both languages [although right now I'm only fluent in one: English].
I have a job at a C.P.A.'s office where I'm pretty much the secretary for "tax season". So what do you guys think?
What are my chances of getting into a nice, private college?
Well, most colleges require an interview. So, if you get past the screening proccess you should automatically get one. It does depend though what you put on your application; most colleges look for people who challenge themselves, (honors classes, sports; time management). It is not always about what your GPA is, alot of the time they will look at extra-curricular activities.
It is also key to list some public things you have done; community work/donation of time. But other then that you should be pretty good, just make sure that you keep a steady grade or higher so that you have a better chance of getting accepted.
Reply:I believe you do have a great start, you might want to look into doing some community service, the scholarship people love when their students are well rounded, but it seems like otherwise you are pretty well off so far...
Reply:Pretty good, ask for a interview if possible.
Reply:As a college professor, I can say that you should pick the college based on where you want to live much more than if it's private or not. If it's not an Ivy, it's not going to increase your earning potential much and it's going to cost much more. Think about that as you look.
I totally know that I didn't answer your question. Good luck on the college search!
PS. Go to a public school and work really hard. It's a better financial decision.
