going to be chief editor of school newspaper.
With these scores and gpa in mind what are some possible schools and colleges i can get into?
Where do you want to go, and what do you want to get from your education? are the more appropriate questions.
The next 6 mos are pretty important when it comes to applying to college.
Have you filled out a FAFSA yet? You need to research colleges and you can do that if you sign up with Princeton Review. It will also provide you with some raw data.
A serious traditional undergraduate student should apply to at least 6 institutions.
Your SAT's are exceptional. Your gpa is okay. The Golf ranking will open some doors. The chief editor of the school paper is good.
I'm curious how Korean got in there, so I'll assume that you have some background with that language and culture.
When you start looking at schools, I would ask these questions.
1. How important is prestige? -- Harvard, Yale, Stanford, UCLA, Berkeley, Tulane, Columbia, Princeton, Brown are all, U of Virginia, Duke, Northwestern, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, etc... are all very prestigious, however there are some down sides.
2. What are your financial limitations? -- Not every school offers golf scholarships. If financial considerations are important, then scholarships are as well. Search schools that have leading golf teams and offer scholarships.
3. How important are athletics to you? Back to the golf issue. Is this a potential career path for you? Will you be bothered if you are attending school where the challenge is low in athletics such as a coach or peers that cannot help you develop athletically? Do you want to play NCAA I? Some of the best academic colleges are not NCAA I OR are not NCAA with your sport. Here is the NCAA's search engine. That should give you colleges that are Division I in your sport. Research some of those colleges.
4. How far away from your parents is acceptable? This is an agreement between you and your parents. They may not be able to afford to fly you home every time the dorm closes. They may want to be within a distance to visit. You may want to be far enough away so they don't visit.
5. What is the basic academic path I'm choosing? You should targets schools that are strong with relationships to your long-term goals. If you are interested in science, which seems from your choice of tests, then you will need to pick a school that is strong in science or the science related professional field that you are targeting. If you are not sure about anything except science, then you want a college with a breadth of options in that area.
6. What kind of culture do you want? Every school has a culture that is different from any other. Do you want a school where social service and consciousness is important? What about people who all want to be important someday? or what about jocks? What about schools that focus primarily in scientific fields?
7. Lastly, another geography question, urban, suburban, college town, or small town? These will affect the amount of activities that you can have outside of school. For some this is important, but others, not really.
So check out the Princeton Review. Look at the NCAA, and THINK man
All of us can shoot off names of schools all day, but never have the right one for you. That's up to you to find out.
It'll be fun once you start researching. Don't forget to visit campuses if you can.
Good luck
Reply:You can probably get into a second tier school, but anything higher than that will be a reach because of your grades.
Everyone else applying to the top tier schools can match your test scores, but those should still get you in someplace in the lower half of the top 50.
Reply:Harvard University, MIT, Princeton U, Columbia U.
Reply:well you should log on to http://www.fastweb.com
This is really helpful-you put in your info and it helps you find colleges in the areas you're interested in with the majors and clubs you want.
Also, look at US News %26amp; World Report books-they have a ton about the best colleges every year. You can look at these at a library or bookstore or even online. Find schools with the majors you're interested in. From there, you can narrow your search. Right now, it looks like you have a lot of options, you just need to narrow your search.
Reply:uh.. to get into a good school.
i suggest you work harder at your GPA..
Your sat scores are really good. so just get your GPA up
you are pretty much set to go into a good school
good luck!
Reply:OK - took you a bit of time to kick in, but if you can pull off a 4.4 in your senior year you can go almost anyplace...
