Does a low GPA mean low IQ?

my question is whether or not gpa's really determine intellect, or even if sat's do...

Years ago a teacher told me he thought i might be the one of smartest people on a team of about 400, but of course i dismissed it. How could a kid getting mostly c's, be even close to the smartest? he pushed me, and actually made me want to try in school. Now about 5 or 6 years later, im in two advanced placement classes, but all together, theres really no improvement in my grades. Right now im also an editor on the school paper, but i even slack in that. What can i say, im a slacker, ive always been. However the one thing that piques my interest is writing, however even in ap english my grade pales in comparison to others. My essays get really good scores but i question the accuracy, and i do little to accomplish assignments i deem trivial...

I see others cheating to complete what i shrug off; and therefore i wonder if my grade accurately entails my intelligence or merely the effort i put forth.

No
Reply:You could have a GPA of 0 and still be a very intelligent person. Your GPA is just the average of all your grades. IE: If you don't do homework or tests, your grade will suffer, not your brain....
Reply:I know several very intelligent people who are bored by their classes, lazy, or both. Either way, their grades are mediocre but they have performed very well on standardized tests and such.
Reply:GPA has nothing to do with intelligence.

SAT (the new one) has a very low correlation ratio with IQ.

Creative types tend not to follow the strict and often dull model of secondary education and there are examples throughout history which prove it. While most of them are concerned with the arts (including writing), perhaps the most notable example is of a scientist - Albert Einstein. He never did well in school, but that did not prevent him from revolutionizing our understanding and the world of physics forever.
Reply:NO!

A smart lazy person can fail, and an ambitious dimwit can get As. GPA is more about effort than anything else.

Also, some smart people are not great at taking tests, but great at real life applications. And some tests that are just memorization of dates only really seem to test how well you can remember what you read.
Reply:no GPA does not mean you have low IQ. unfortunately the world compares grades with intelligence. You are lazy and that is why you are not working u to your potential. If you do well on the sat then you can get in to any school you want. i would highly recommend you to not be SO lazy just CUZ if in the world we live some one is lazy they will not accomplish any thing whether its a job, relationship etc. good luck with every thing and motivate ur self being lazy is not a good habit.
Reply:Your GPA does more to reflect your work ethic and how motivated you are. A high GPA means you did your homework. Your IQ indicates your ability to think logically and solve problems.
Reply:Someone can have a high IQ but if they're unmotivated and dont put forth effort in school work, it can result in a low GPA
Reply:Well, sounds like you're an underachiever and proud of it. Your GPA reflects how much of your IQ you're putting to use.
