How can I get into Yale?

Here's a look at my resume as of Junior year:

GPA - 3.765

SAT (expected score) - 1800-2000

2 or 3 AP courses per year/the rest are advanced classes

E.C.s - Student Council (Representative, Class President, Student Body Secretary), Key Club (3 yrs.), Student Recruiting Club (3 yrs.), Debate (2 yrs.), school Newspaper (Editor) (3 yrs.), Basketball Team (1 yr.), Catholic Teen Retreat (Director) (3 yrs.), Church Youth Group, 200+ service hours and I was an intern for 3 months in the courtroom of a federal judge.

I will be a 1st generation Black college student. I am very interested in journalism and politics and I am very faith-oriented. I'm very good at history and english/writing but I'm not sure what to major in.

What do I need to improve or tweak on my resume so that I can further my chances of achieving the dream? And if not Yale, what are some colleges on that caliber that I can apply to in Texas or Virginia. I pray and hope that Yale is where I end up.

It is too early to tell -- especially since you haven't taken the SAT yet.

Your GPA is in the right range if it is unweighted. Your SAT scores are on the low side for top ten schools -- so Yale will be a stretch. But if you do get SAT scores of 1800-2000 -- plenty of other good schools would love to get you. Many schools would love to get talented black students -- so your chances could be better than the average person with your qualifications.

In Texas, the only schools you should consider are Rice and UT-Austin. In Virginia, University of Virginia and William %26amp; Mary.

Princeton Review has a tool where you can enter information about your background and interests %26amp; it will suggest schools for you. The link is below.
Reply:A donation of a large sum of money, someone who went there before that did well, good GPA and list of things you did, and LUCK

Reply:Those are actually low SAT scores for a top school, but lots of people get in with those kinds of SAT scores. Your race and first generation status will help. It's honestly not easy to predict who will get into an Ivy. It seems so random the admissions process, but I'm sure the school had a reason for picking those people.
